Our water monitoring story began in 1991 by investigating seasonal changes in quality of surface water, evolving over the time. In 2007, different backgrounds in microbiology, chemical engineering, risk assessment and bioinstrumention combined together and applied to design of an innovative Two-Tier real-time monitoring system for drinking water distribution network including an early warning system, probabilistic data fusion algorithm, and confirmatory testing systems. Due to importance of rapid microbial test results either for the safety of public health, managing risk and to timely response to any change in quality of water in any system, we focused on rapid detection systems and their applications in different fields from monitoring quality of drinking water in distribution network to water in oil and gas industry. ALVIM Srl provides innovative, high-tech solutions for biofilm and biofouling monitoring in industrial plants. In particular, the ALVIM real-time, on line, biofilm monitoring system, is able to detect bacterial settlement since its first phases (down to 1% of surface covered by microorganisms) and, basing on these data, to manually or automatically adjust and optimize water cleaning treatments / biocide treatments (in industrial water systems, pure water lines, etc.) allowing to check, at the same time, the efficacy of the cleaning.
